Zomerlust Boutique Hotel
Zomerlust, a place of refuge since 1792, is a 15-suite sanctuary on historic Main Road in Paarl, where layered design, garden stillness and fire-led dining come together.
For generations, Zomerlust has been a distinct destination, and now it begins a new chapter that is elegant, unmistakably contemporary and absolutely aligned with its heritage. Here, carefully restored gardens, considered interiors and intuitive hospitality create a rare sense of ease, inviting you to slow down and stay longer than planned.
At Zomerlust, time is suspended from the outside world, and days move gently between poolside stillness and shaded garden paths. Afternoon Tea on the Sun Stoep and as evening settles, the rhythm shifts toward SMEUL, where Chef Kevin Grobler works with fire as it has always been done, drawing out smoke, flame and seasonality to craft his hyper-local and beautifully refined cuisine.
The goal was never to simply preserve heritage. At Zomerlust, it is felt, lived and quietly redefined, creating an environment and experience that stays with you long after you leave and, perhaps more importantly, one you will find yourself wanting to return to.

Dining shaped by the most primal forces – fire, smoke and flame. Led by award-winning Chef Kevin Grobler, SMEUL Restaurant forms part of the very heartbeat of Zomerlust. Our deeply immersive and fire-led dining experience is where smoke, flame, and seasonality are married in a technique shaped by heritage and interpreted in an unmistakably modern manner.
The à la carte menu at SMEUL is both locally and globally influenced, drawing inspiration from the finest local and seasonal ingredients, with each dish reflecting the team’s refinement of time-honoured, fire-led cooking techniques, be it a mouthwatering flame-grilled T-Bone steak or a flavourful and lightly smoked vegetable dish. While the elemental fire and flame-led focus bring a deeply sensory aspect to your dining experience, it is also a nod to the property's origins, echoing the traditional way food was prepared here centuries ago.
For an intimate private dining experience in Paarl, SMEUL offers private dining for up to 16 guests, designed for occasions that feel both personal and unforgettable.
SMEUL is open for lunch from 12pm (last seating 2pm) and dinner from 5 pm (last seating 8 pm).
